Assos, Temple of Athena, 2004. The ancient Greek city of Assos is beautifully set on a steep promontory overlooking the Aegean. The Doric Temple of Athena, dating from 530 BC, was excavated by an American expedition in the early 1880s. Aristotle lived and taught in Assos from 348 until 345 BC. The view here looks south, toward the Greek island of Lesbos.
