Cinder Cone, Andagua Valley, Peru, 1989. The Andagua Valley is known as the Valley of the Volcanoes because of a series of more than eighty cinder cones, ranging from 50 to 150 feet in height, that pockmark the basalt covering of the river valley. The ancient inhabitants of the nearby valleys attributed their own origins to volcanoes.
