Ani, Church of the Redeemer, Anatolia, 2008. The ruined city of Ani at the eastern end of Turkey was the capital of an important medieval Armenian kingdom. This church, originally 19-sided with a tall drum supporting a dome, was built circa 1036 to hold a relic of the True Cross. The eastern half of the church collapsed during a storm in 1957.
